Suppose you've applied for your Colombia Tourist Visa, you've already packed your things, and you're basically ready to go.
Suddenly, someone informs you about a requirement you must complete before traveling to Colombia - the check MIG Colombia form.
When you hear this, your first thought might be, "What the heck is that?"
That is why I decided to write this post to ensure that anyone traveling to Colombia knows what the Colombia Check MIG (Colombia entry form) is and how to get it. Just to make sure you're not left in the dark.
Let's get started!
From personal experience, I know how frustrating it can be to apply for the Colombia Check MIG.
There are many "broken things" you're bound to find during the online application process, from the website crashing and half-translated text to your data not being saved. I've even heard testimonies of people who never received any notification about their application process.
If you want to avoid this and you're just looking for the fastest way to get your Check MIG, then I recommend using Atlys. This is the tool I used to get mine.
Atlys does all the paperwork for you. All you need to do is enter your personal information and trip details, and the rest will be done for you. It's really as simple as that.
First, I'll walk you through the basics of the Check MIG form for Colombia.
It's good to have a general understanding of what the Colombia entry form is and why you require it. Also, you'll find answers to the most frequent questions travelers tend to have.
Here's what you'll find:
In light of the recent global pandemic, known as COVID-19, the Colombian Government has implemented a new mandatory requirement for all its visitors.
This is known as the Colombia Check MIG form or the Colombia entry form.
The Colombia Check MIG form is a travel authorization (travel document) implemented to reduce unnecessary contact between international travelers and border control officials. Furthermore, it's to ensure the safety of visitors and Colombian locals.
Another advantage is that the Check MIG speeds up the immigration control process and the passenger's interaction with the Immigration officers.
You need to apply for the Check MIG form before entering as well as leaving Colombia. Meaning you need to apply for it twice. Once before entering the country and also before leaving the country.
You can complete the Check MIG form within 24 hours before your flight.
Anyone planning to visit Colombia needs to complete the Check MIG form. With that said, all nationals are eligible to apply for the Check MIG Colombia form.
No. The Check MIG form must not be confused with a visa or entry permit type. It's a separate requirement you need to present alongside your Colombia Visa.
Even if you enjoy visa-free travel to Colombia, you still need to complete the Check MIG form.
Once you've completed and submitted your form, it will take around 72 hours to be processed. After it's been processed, you'll receive the approved Colombia Check MIG via email.
Note that it's also possible to receive your Check MIG within 24 hours of completing the form. Nonetheless, I recommend applying for it at least 72h before your intended flight.
Unlike other health declarations and forms, you don't need to upload any required documents when completing your Check MIG form. However, you'll need to enter your personal information and travel details.
Before applying for your Colombia Check MIG, you need to have the following documents:
When filling in your Check MIG form, you'll enter the information found on the documents listed above.
In addition to your personal and trip information, you need to complete a short questionnaire regarding your health status. Remember, the Colombia Check MIG is to ensure the safety of all visitors and locals. Therefore, be sure to answer these questions truthfully.
Here's what you'll be asked:
Next, let's look at how you can easily complete the Colombia Check-MIG form. Be sure to have the documents I listed above at hand when applying for your Check MIG. Note that the Colombia check MIG form is also commonly referred to as the Colombia entry form.
To start your Check MIG applications, you need to head over to the official Check MIG website.
Once you click on the link, you'll be redirected to a new page. The page might seem confusing at first. But don't worry. All you need to do is click on the image that says "Check-Mig."
After clicking the link, you should land on another page with 3 icons.
You can select your preferred language at the top of the page.
You now need to find and select "Make your Check-Mig."
After you select "Make your Check-MIG", you'll be prompted to enter your trip information. The important part of this step is to choose what form of travel you plan to use.
You have 4 options:
For the purpose of this walkthrough, I'll discuss the application via "Air" travel. Nonetheless, you'll find the application to be the same no matter what option you select.
After selecting air, you need to indicate the Registration type". If you plan to enter Colombia, check "entrance to Colombia."
Now you need to select what international airport in Colombia you'll be arriving at on the Colombia entry form.
Note that you need to enter your flight number, which connects to the selected airport.
When entering your flight number, ensure that it's the flight that enters Colombia. For example, if you have 2 stops, your final flight number should be entered.
Finally, you need to enter information regarding your Country of Information.
*"Why can't I find my country within the list?"
This happened to me too. But don't worry. It's there, just in a different language (Spanish). So, for example, US citizens must select "Estados Unidos".
If you can't find your country, google your country name in Spanish. Now find the Spanish name for your country.
This part is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is enter your personal details as found on your passport. Remember to double-check that the info you provide is correct and accurate.
Also, if you have a visa to enter Colombia, you need to enter details related to your Colombia Visa.
Basically, your "Host information" is where you plan to stay in Colombia. Once again, be sure the information you provide is accurate and correct. After completing the fields, click next.
As I mentioned, you need to complete a quick health questionnaire. The questions are relatively straightforward. However, it's important the answer these questions truthfully.
This part is only for travelers traveling to Colombia with children.
If you are traveling alone, you can click next.
If you're traveling with a minor, you must select "yes". After that, a window to add your child's information will pop up. Enter the required information in the provided fields.
Once you've completed the Colombia Check-MIG form. After entering all your details, you'll see the following:
All you need to do is enter the text displayed on the image, check the T&C's, and submit your application.
After submitting your application, you'll receive a confirmation email.
As I mentioned, there have been testimonies of people who never received any confirmation. If you have not received an email within an hour, you can send an inquiry to competent authorities. To avoid all potential problems, start your application online through Atlys.
After receiving your Check-MIG, make a copy of it and keep it safe. You'll need to present it to border control officials once you arrive in Colombia.
After receiving your Check-MIG, you can enter Colombia.
Your Check-MIG is only valid for 30 days. You must also know that you can't use the Check-MIG more than once. As mentioned above, you must apply for another form when you leave Colombia because you can't use the one you used to enter Colombia.
The decision to allow you entry is entirely at the discretion of Colombian authorities. Officials can deny your Check-MIG application if you're deemed a health risk, for example, if you have recently been exposed to COVID-19.
In the rare case that a Check-Mig application is rejected, you can just apply for another Check-MIG form.
Now all you need to do is travel and enjoy your trip.
You can check our FAQ section for more questions most travelers tend to have.
Technically, yes. It's supposed to be a simple application form that you can complete online. However, you encounter some difficulties throughout the application process. I've covered all of these above, but here's a short mention.

Because COVID-19 restrictions change frequently, I won't be able to provide the exact details (it might already be outdated.) Therefore, I recommend using Atlys's COVID-19 tool before traveling to Colombia. It will provide you with the most up-to-date information regarding the coronavirus situation in Colombia.
