If you're planning to transit through Malaysia on your way to your final destination, it's important to know what you'll need. Let's get straight to it:
Do Indians Require A Malaysia Transit Visa?
Are you planning a trip to a country that requires you to make a stopover in Malaysia? In that case, yes, you might need a Malaysia transit visa.
A transit visa is a type of visa that allows travellers to make a brief stop in a country on the way to their final destination.
When Do I Need A Transit Visa For Malaysia?
You need a transit visa for Malaysia from India in the following cases:
Foreign nationals who are transiting through Malaysia en route to their destination country may require a transit visa depending on their nationality and the length of their stay in Malaysia.
Nationals from countries that require a Malaysia visa need a transit visa if transiting for more than 24 hours, passing through immigration to board another flight/getting luggage, or switching between terminals.
Transit visas can be obtained through the Malaysian embassy or consulate or via the Electronic Travel Registration and Information (eNTRI) system for eligible travellers.
Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan citizens are exempt from the requirement for a transit visa if they are transiting through Malaysia for less than 120 hours (5 days).
Please note that there is no designated Malaysian transit visa. If you need a visa when transiting, you can apply for a Malaysia eVisa or eNTRI visa. However, for the sake of the blog, we will be referencing the online visa as the transit visa.
Who Doesn't Need A Malaysia Transit Visa?
If you have already checked in for the next flight and do not plan to leave the airport terminal (i.e., you want to wait for the next flight in the terminal building), a Malaysian transit visa is not required.
If your connecting flight is on the same PNR, then most likely, you do not need to leave the airport terminal and will not need a transit visa.
Please ask your airline or travel agent to ensure you will get your boarding pass for the connecting flight without going out from the main terminal.
