What Is The Uganda Work Visa For Indians?

The Uganda Work Visa is an official authorization issued by the Ugandan government that permits Indian nationals and other foreigners to legally work and reside in Uganda. What Are The Different Types Of Work Visas?

There are different types of work visas available for Indian nationals. Each of these visas is for a specific purpose of travel. The work visas include:

Class A - Diplomatic service: This permit is for individuals who hold diplomatic passports and are travelling to Uganda for official diplomatic work. You can get a visa valid for 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, or 36 months.

Class A - Official service: This is a type of permit issued to individuals who hold official passports and are travelling to Uganda for official purposes or work.

Class A2 - Government contractors: This visa is issued to a person employed in a government institution and paid for by the government of Uganda.

Class B1 - Agriculture: The Class B1 visa is for shareholders of companies engaged in Agriculture in Uganda.

Class C1 - Mining: Issued to shareholders of companies engaged in prospecting of minerals or mining of other minerals

Class C2: This visa is issued to shareholders of companies engaged in prospecting of minerals or mining of specific minerals (gold, copper, iron ore, silica, phosphate, limestone and marble).

Class D: Issued to shareholders of companies engaged in General trade.

Class F - Professionals: For shareholders of companies engaged in specific professionals (medical profession, dentists, the legal profession, pharmacists, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, mining engineers, aeronautical engineers, chemical engineers, accountants, architects and surveyors, veterinary surgeons, estate agents, valuers, land surveyors and land agents, nurses, and midwives).

Class G1 - Missionaries and Volunteer NGO Workers: Issued to employees who are missionaries and volunteers working in NGOs.

Class G2 - Expatriate Employees: Issued to foreign expatriates employed in Uganda including salaried employees working in NGOs.

Class G3: This visa is issued to expatriates with rare skilled foreign nationals employed in Agro-processing, manufacturing and mining of selected minerals.

Class H - Ordinary Residents: This is issued to people who have an assured income derived from sources outside and undertake not to accept employment of any kind.

What Are The Required Documents For The Uganda Work Visa?

There are certain travel documents you must submit during your Uganda work visa application. These documents form part of the Uganda work visa requirements and are crucial for your application.

The documents required for the G2 - Expatriate Employees visa:

Valid Passport: You need a scanned copy of your passport biodata page. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended date of arrival.

Passport photo: You need a copy of your recent passport photo.

Covering letter: Covering letter from the agency in Uganda.

Clearance letter: You need a valid clearance letter from Interpol or a valid police clearance from your home country.

Tax clearance: Copy of your valid tax clearance certificate.

Appointment letter: You need an appointment letter from an organization in Uganda.

Qualifications: Certified copy of your qualifications (graduate certificate).

Proof of failure: You must provide proof that the company you work for couldn’t hire a qualified Ugandan.

List of employees: Provide a list of employees in the organization indicating nationality and position held.

Upload Requirements

Your documents must meet certain upload requirements. If it doesn’t, you won’t be able to upload them. The upload requirements for the Uganda work visa are as follows:

Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, BMP, and PDF.

Minimum file size: 5 KB.

Maximum file size: 250 KB.

How Can I Apply For A Uganda Work Visa From India?

The application process is done entirely online. Note that this step-by-step guide is for the G2 - Expatriate Employees visa. If you’re applying for another work visa type, the application process will look the same. However, there might be a slight difference in the application form.

Here’s how you can apply:

Step 1: Start Your Application

Go to the Uganda E Immigration System website, click on “Start Application”, and accept the terms and conditions displayed in the Disclaimer.

Step 2: Type Of Application

Select the type of application, Visa or permit type. You must also choose a category which will be the Class G2 - Expatriate Employees visa. Choose the validity of your visa under “Subcategory.”

Step 3: Visa Application Form

The Uganda application form is divided into 4 categories:

Organisation code: You need to enter the organisation code.

Personal information: This includes your name, surname, date of birth, gender, marital status, current nationality, etc.

Passport data: You must enter your passport type, passport number, issuing country, place of issue, date of issue, etc.

Other data: Provide your profession, occupation, address in Uganda, duration of stay requested, etc.

Step 4: Required Documents

Upload all the required documents mentioned earlier in this post. The supported formats for the documents are PDF, JPEG, PNG, and BMP. Your file must not be bigger than 250 KB.

Step 5: Submit Your Application

Once you submit your Uganda work visa application, you will receive a notification with an application number you can use to track your application.

Step 6: Pay The Visa Fee

To pay the visa fee, you must go to the Immigration portal and click on “Applications.” This will open a drop-down. Click on the last heading, “Manage Applications.”

Enter your application ID, passport number, and date of birth. You’ll be able to pay your visa fee.

Step 7: Receive Your Visa

After your visa is approved, you'll receive an email with an attachment of the visa approval/authorization to travel. This attachment should be printed and presented to the immigration officer upon arrival in Uganda.

How To Check Your Uganda Work Visa Status

After applying for your visa, you can check your Uganda visa status to keep an eye on the progress. To do this, you must go to the Uganda E Immigration System and click on “Manage Application.” 

Then, you must enter your application ID, passport number, and date of birth. 

You’ll be able to see the status of your visa once you click “Check Application Status.”

What Is The Uganda Work Visa Fees?

The visa fee for the Class G2 - Expatriate Employees visa depends on the validity you choose:

The 6-month visa costs USD 1250.

The 12-month visa costs USD 1000. It has a pre-payment fee of USD 1500.

The 24-month visa costs USD 3500 with a pre-payment fee of USD 1500.

The 36-month visa costs USD 6000. It has a pre-payment fee of USD 1500.

How Long Does It Take To Process A Uganda Work Visa?

The Uganda work visa processing time is between 2-3 business days. Keep in mind that this does not include weekends or public holidays.
