What Is The Difference Between The Tourist Card And The Visa?
The Tourist Card and the Visa can only be used for tourism. I know there might be confusion between the Tourist Card and the Visa, but don't worry. I've got you covered.
The Tourist Card is basically a Visa waiver. This means that citizens from certain countries can enter the Dominican Republic without applying for a Visa.
These countries include Canada, the European Union, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States, and most South American countries like Brazil and Argentina.
As I mentioned before, a Visa is only needed when you are not from one of the previously mentioned countries. Later in this post, I will explain who needs a Visa.
These countries are eligible for a Tourist Card:
Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Australia , Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belice, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark , Dominica, El Salvador, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Monaco, Namibia, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand , Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Tuvalu, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland , United States, Vanuatu, Vatican City and Venezuela.
How Long Is A Tourist Card Valid For?
You can stay a max of 30 days.
Extensions are possible by paying a fee once inside the country - verify at the border upon arrival.
What Is The Tourist Card Fee?
The Tourist Card fee is USD 10.
Who Needs To Apply For The Dominican Republic Visa?
So you're not on the list of countries that only need a Tourist Card? However, I only mentioned just a handful of countries earlier. Just go to the embassy of the Dominican Republic's website to check if you need a Tourist Card.
If your country is not on that list, you need to apply for a Visa. Remember that if your name is not on that list, it doesn't mean bad news. It just means that you will have to go through some extra steps.
How Long Is The Visa Valid?
The Visa allows for a stay of up to 60 days. Remember that your length of stay depends on whether you have a Visa or Tourist Card. The Tourist Card only allows for stays up to 30 days.
What Are The Different Types Of Visas?
There are two different types of Visas. They are as follows:
The Simple Tourism Visa (TS): allows for single-entry
The Multiple Tourism Visa (TM): allows for multiple entries
What Is The Dominican Republic Visa Price?
The Visa price depends on which type of Visa you are applying for. The visa price for each are as follows:
The Simple Tourism Visa (TS): 95 USD
The Multiple Tourism Visa (TM): 125 USD
Can You Extend Your Visa?
If you stay longer than 30 days, you will be charged an additional fee upon departure, which is calculated on a sliding scale based on the total length of your stay. Perhaps you intend to extend your stay for more than 30 days.
Then you must go to the Dominican Republic Department of Immigration's website to find out the applicable fees that must be paid online and the required documents.
What Is The Dominican Republic Visa Processing Time?
The processing time can be anything between 10 - 15 business days. Remember that this depends on where you are applying for your Visa.
What Is The Dominican Republic E-Ticket?
The Dominican Republic implemented an electronic system that combined the Traveler's Health Affidavit, Customs Declaration, and International Embarkation/Disembarkation forms into a single digital form. As a result, all commercial flight passengers entering and departing the country will be required to fill out and submit their digital documents through the Electronic Ticket Portal either before or upon arrival.
I strongly recommend filling out the form at least 72 hours before your trip. You must either print or take a screenshot of the QR code. Remember to have it on hand when arriving at the airport. Your e-ticket will be scanned by the authorities as soon as you go through Customs. You will fill out two forms, one for arrival and one for departure, and the system will generate two QR codes. Your QR code will not be scanned during departure, but it confirms that the form was completed correctly.
Luckily, the Dominican Republic airports have free wifi. This means you can fill out the form at the airport if you have not done so before your trip.
Perhaps you arrive on a private flight, non-commercial vessel, ferry, cruise ship, or other modes of transportation. Then you do not need to complete the electronic form. Instead, you'll only need a physical Traveler's Health Affidavit, Customs Declaration, and International Embarkation/Disembarkation document.
For further information, you can check out the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism's website. They also have an instructional video on how to complete the online e-ticket in Spanish and English.
If you need to change the form, go to the E-ticket portal, select the option to consult the issued E-ticket, enter the form's application code, and make the necessary changes.
