What Is The Difference Between The Dominican Republic Tourist Card And Dominican Republic Tourist Visa?

The Dominican Republic Tourist Card and Tourist Visa can only be used for tourism. I know there might be confusion between the Dominican Republic Tourist Card and the Tourist Visa, but don't worry. I've got you covered.

The Dominican Tourist Card is basically a Tourist Visa waiver. This means that citizens from certain countries can enter the Dominican Republic without applying for a Dominican Republic Tourist Visa. These countries include Canada, the European Union, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States, and most South American countries like Brazil and Argentina.

As I mentioned before, the Dominican Tourist Visa is only needed when you are not from one of the previously mentioned countries. Later in this post, I will explain who needs a Dominican Republic Tourist Visa.

What Is The Dominican Republic E-Ticket?

The Dominican Republic implemented an electronic system that combined the Traveler's Health Affidavit, Customs Declaration, and International Embarkation/Disembarkation forms into a single digital form. As a result, all commercial flight passengers entering and departing the country will be required to fill out and submit their digital documents through the Electronic Ticket Portal either before or upon arrival.

I strongly recommend filling out the form at least 72 hours before your trip. You must either print or take a screenshot of the QR code. Remember to have it on hand when arriving at the airport. Your e-ticket will be scanned by the authorities as soon as you go through Customs. You will fill out two forms, one for arrival and one for departure, and the system will generate two QR codes. Your QR code will not be scanned during departure, but it confirms that the form was completed correctly.

Luckily, the Dominican Republic airports have free wifi. This means you can fill out the form at the airport if you have not done so before your trip.

Perhaps you arrive on a private flight, non-commercial vessel, ferry, cruise ship, or other modes of transportation. Then you do not need to complete the electronic form. Instead, you'll only need a physical Traveler's Health Affidavit, Customs Declaration, and International Embarkation/Disembarkation document.

For further information, you can check out the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism's website. They also have an instructional video on how to complete the online e-ticket in Spanish and English.

Quick note: If you need to change to the form, go to the E-ticket portal, select the option to consult the issued E-ticket, enter the form's application code, and make the necessary changes.
