Visa For Egypt From The US
What Is The Egypt Visa?
The Egypt Visa, also known as the Egypt E Visa, is an online travel authorization allowing foreign nationals and passport holders to enter Egypt only for tourism purposes.
Please keep in mind that there are only 2 types of Egypt E Visa US citizens can apply for and that they are strictly for tourism purposes:
Egypt Single Entry Tourist Visa: 30 days validity
Egypt Multiple Entry Tourist Visa: 180 days validity
Although both online Tourist Visas are applied for the same way, their application fees differ. But we'll discuss it shortly.
It's important to note that the Egypt Tourist Visa is strictly an online visa application. Therefore, when referring to the Egypt Visa for US citizens, we're essentially talking about the Egypt E Visa.
Can You Get A Visa For Egypt At The Airport?
No, US citizens do not qualify for the Egypt Visa on Arrival. However, for additional information, please check out our Egypt Visa on Arrival blog.
Where Can I Apply For An Egypt E Visa?
You can apply for your E Visa for Egypt through the Egypt Government's online Visa portal. However, we are aware that the website is down frequently.
Therefore, the best alternative option is Atlys. You can check out how to apply for your Egypt E Visa with Atlys in minutes in the next section.
How Much Is A Visa for Egypt In 2022?
As I mentioned, there are 2 different types of Egypt E Visas, each with a different cost. Here's a list of the different E Visas and visa costs:
Single Entry Egypt Tourist Visa: 25 USD
Multiple Entry Egypt Tourist Visa: 60 USD
What Is The Egypt E Visa Processing Time?
If the Egypt online visa portal works, you can get your Egypt E Visa processed within 5 days. However, we suggest you start your online application at least 7 days before your departure date.
What Are The Egypt Visa Requirements For US Citizens?
Now that you know how to get your Egypt Visa in minutes with Atlys, let's look at the different Egypt Visa requirements for US citizens:
What Documents Are Required To Apply for The Egypt Visa Online?
What Are The Passport Requirements?
What Are The Photo Requirements?
What Are The Financial Requirements To Visit Egypt?
What Documents Are Required To Apply for The Egypt Visa Online?
Just like any other e-visa application, the Egypt E-Visa requires you to submit documents when applying online. However, the Egypt Tourist visa requires you to submit two documents. You'll need a passport valid for at least six months with two blank ages, and a passport-size photograph.
You'll also need other documents to provide information during your application. These documents can include:
Proof of accommodation.
A return flight ticket.
Your passport.
But there are a few things to it when uploading a copy of your passport. Which we'll discuss when explaining how to apply for the Egypt Visa online.
Although you are not required to submit a stack of documents, you must have the following information available:
Your passport information
Your travel dates
Your email address
Other personal information (citizenship, residency, etc.)
If you apply through Atlys, we'll help you with all your documents and information. All you need to do is download the Atlys app and start your application.
What Are The Passport Requirements?
As I mentioned, you only need to submit a copy of your valid passport when applying online. But what is considered a valid passport?
The first and main thing about passport requirements and validity is that you must ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your expected departure date.
Remember that when uploading a copy of your passport, the image must be of good quality but has a size smaller than 500kb. We'll discuss this a bit later in the blog.
What Are The Photo Requirements?
Luckily the Egypt E Visa does not require a passport photo. In its place, you must upload the above-mentioned passport copy.
Unfortunately, I don't have the chance to "brag" about Atlys' free passport photo tool because you don't need it for the Egypt Visa. But be sure to check it out when applying for any other type of visa.
What Are The Financial Requirements To Visit Egypt?
The Egypt E Visa does not require a minimum financial amount to travel to Egypt. However, we suggest you compile a travel itinerary and ensure you can cover your expenses.
As long as you can afford and pay for everything yourself, you do not have to provide proof of sufficient funds. Additionally, if a family member or friend sponsors your trip, ensure you have documents proving that.
Documents proving financial status include:
Copy of your bank statement
Traveler's cheques
Cash (remember you can't have more than 10 000 USD with you)
We typically see that single travelers have around 2 000 USD when visiting Egypt for 7 days. Therefore, ensure you do enough research on pricing and what you can expect to pay for everything on your trip.
How To Apply For The Egypt Visa Online?
Next is the part you've been waiting for, how US citizens can get an Egypt Visa online. Unfortunately, users face problems applying for their Egypt Visa on the government portal.
Therefore, we strongly advise applying through Atlys. However, if you want to take your chances, ensure you follow our detailed 6-step application guide below:
Please also check out our guide on applying for the Egyptian E-Visa for additional information.
Step 1 - Determine The Type Of Visa You Want To Apply For
Step 2 - Create An Account On The Embassy Portal
Step 3 - Get Your Documents Ready
Step 4 - Apply For Your Visa Online
Step 5 - Pay Your Egypt Visa Fees
Step 6 - Wait For Your Visa To Be Processed
Step 1 - Determine The Type Of Visa You Want To Apply For
The first step when applying for your Egypt visa is to determine which type of E-Visa you want to apply for.
"What are my options?"
Well, you can apply for either a Single or Multiple Entry Tourist Visa. The only difference between the two visa types is the number of entries you have while the visa is valid.
Let me explain with an example:
A single entry visa is only valid for 30 days, which means you can only enter Egypt once, stay in Egypt for a maximum of 30 days, and then leave.
But with the Multiple Entry Visa, your visa is valid for 180 days. So although you can only stay in Egypt for 30 days at a time, you can leave and come back to Egypt for another 30 days.
Therefore, if you do not plan on returning to Egypt after 30 days, we suggest you only apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa.
Step 2 - Create An Account On The Government Portal
Next, you must create an account on the Egyptian government's online visa portal.
Creating your account is fairly easy. Just remember to confirm your email address before continuing with your application.
Step 3 - Get Your Documents Ready
After you have created your account, I suggest you ensure the copy of your passport is ready to be uploaded. Therefore, ensure the digital copy is saved with the following in mind:
The size is smaller than 500kB
The image is clear without any distortion or discoloration
Your face is visible
It's saved in a JPEG or PNG format
Your file name is saved without any special characters
Once you are certain that your passport copy meets the requirements mentioned above, you can start to apply for your Egypt E Visa.
Step 4 - Apply For Your Visa Online
Now that you are signed into your account, you can click on the option "Start a new application."
Once a new page is opened, you must start by completing your information on the next 3 pages, which are:
Travel information
Applicant information
Host information
You'll have to upload your documents when completing the "Applicant information" section. Don't stress too much about it for now. In the next section, we'll discuss how you must complete the information (application form).
Next, let's take a look at how you'll pay your visa fee online:
Step 5 - Pay Your Egypt Visa Fees
Normally it's quite straightforward to pay your visa fees. However, travelers often struggle to pay their Egypt Visa fees.
That's why you've got Atlys to do everything for you. But, if you decide against using the free Atlys app, here's how you'll pay your Egypt Visa fees:
Step 1: Click on "confirm"
Step 2: Confirm the web browser recommendations
Step 3: Choose what type of card you want to pay with (Mastercard/Visa)
Step 4: Enter your card details and pay your visa fee
Step 6 - Wait For Your Visa To Be Processed
After you have paid the cost for your Egypt Visa, you must wait for it to be processed.
Applicants normally wait 5 days for their visas to be processed. However, we suggest you apply at least 7 days before your flight.
Next, let's take a look at how you must complete the application form.

How To Check The Validity Of My Egypt Visa?
Now that you have a detailed overview of the Egypt online visa application let's have a look at how you can check the validity of your Egypt Visa.
We know that the term "validity" sometimes gets people confused. Therefore, here are all the possible answers to "how to check the validity of my Egypt Visa?"
Egypt Single Entry E Visa:
The Single Entry Visa is valid for 90 days (3 months). However, you can only stay in Egypt for 30 days. Once you leave Egypt, your Single Entry Visa will expire.
Therefore, you must keep track of the days when arriving in Egypt to ensure you do not overstay your trip.
Egypt Multiple Entry E Visa
The Multiple Entry Visa is valid for 180 days. So although you can only stay in Egypt for 30 days, you're allowed to leave and return for another 30 days.
Therefore, it's always best practice to determine the validity of your Egypt Visa by looking at the expiry date on your approved visa. Please find the below example of how the validity is shown:
Egypt E Visa Status Check
In this next chapter, we'll look at how you can check the status of your Egypt E Visa.
Here's how you'll do it:
How To Check Your Egyp Visa Status Online?
You can check your visa status by going to the Egypt Immigration website.
On the first page, you must enter the following:
Application reference
Passport number
Email address
Your request (E Visa status check)
Here's an example of what you will see:
After clicking the "SUBMIT" button, you will see a response stating, "We have received your request, and our team will get back to you shortly. You can check your email for further updates."
Then you have to wait for the Immigration Department to check your visa status and come back to you.
Unfortunately, there isn't a known response time. Therefore, we advise you to rather apply for your Egypt Visa early enough to avoid any delays to your trip.
Remember when I mentioned you can apply through the Atlys app? If you do, you'll be happy to know that the app updates you through push notifications about your visa status. No need to note down application tracking numbers anymore. The Atlys app thrives for convenience at your fingertips.

The first and most common problem is that the website sometimes experiences downtime.
"What does this mean?"
It means travelers can't complete their Egypt Visa application online because the portal is not working. This negatively impacts travelers that must travel to Egypt urgently.
Don't worry, we'll discuss the best solution shortly (winky face).
Payment Issues
There has also been a lot of talk about payment issues when paying visa fees online. Some travelers can't pay with their Visa or Mastercard due to a 3D secure system error. Therefore, leaving them unable to pay their Egypt visa fee.
Payment issues can cause a delay in your visa application. Therefore, in the worst cases, it can cause a delay to your trip.
Before I give we cover the best solution to solve these problems, check out our guide about the Egypt E Visa payment issues
Long Load Times
While some travelers were applying, they experienced the Egypt online Visa portal having long load times. Not only is it frustrating, but this makes the website feel spammy and untrustworthy.

Other website problems include uploading a copy of your passport. Although it seems easy, you must ensure it meets the specifications mentioned earlier.

The best way to avoid these issues is to start a new application with Atlys.
"Why Atlys," you ask?

Others: It's easy to upload documents on the Atlys app. All you need to do is scan your passport's barcode, and that's it.
With that said, I will not leave you empty-handed. Let's discuss a few solutions you can try on your own:
Online portal issues: You'll have to wait for the website to be up and running before you can apply. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about the portal being down.
