The Egypt e-Visa Basics

Before getting to the application process and steps, I'll briefly explain the Egypt e-Visa basics you need to consider before applying:

What Is The Egypt e-Visa?

The Egypt Tourist Visa, Egypt e-Visa, Egypt Entry Visa or Egypt Electronic Visa, is a travel authorization document that allows you to enter Egypt for tourist and business.

Here's the cool part:

Unlike a traditional "paper" visa, you can apply for your Egypt Entry Visa online from the comfort of your couch. That's right, no need to travel to your nearest Egyptian Embassy to apply for a visa.

Nonetheless, even though you can complete your e-visa application online, you might go through a few hurdles. That's why we suggest you get your visa through Atlys. It's easy and quick.

Do I Need A Visa For Egypt in 2022?

Yes, you do. Unfortunately, US citizens aren't part of the visa-free countries, which means that you must apply for a visa before you travel to Egypt. Fortunately, you can apply for an Egypt visa online, also known as an eVisa.

Who Needs To Apply For The Egypt e-Visa?

Generally speaking, a foreign national who wants to visit the Arab Republic of Egypt needs to obtain a Visa for Egypt before entering. Luckily, the Egyptian government has listed the eligible countries that can apply for an e-Visa to enter Egypt and explore the hidden wonders within.

What Are The Types Of Egypt e-Visas?

So, there are 2 types of e-Visas you can apply for. The Single Entry Visa, as well as the Multiple Entry Visa. The type of visa you apply for will determine the duration you're allowed to stay within the country. Furthermore, it also indicates the total of entries you have into Egypt.

Let me explain:

The Single Entry e-Visa:

As the name suggests, you're only allowed one entry into Egypt. So once you leave the country, you'll need to apply for another visa for Egypt to re-enter the country. Also, the Single Entry e-Visa expires after 3 months and only allows a stay of a maximum of 30 days.

The Multiple Entry e-Visa:

As you probably guessed, the Multiple Entry e-Visa allows you to enter Egypt multiple times. Meaning you can leave and return as many times as you like. However, remember that the Multiple Entry e-Visa is only valid for 6 months and allows you to stay for 30 days per visit. That means you can visit Egypt for up to 30 days, multiple times, within a 6-month window.

How Much Is The Egypt e-Visa Fee In 2022?

The visa fee depends on the type of Egypt e-Visa you're applying for. As just discussed, there are 2 types of e-Visas:

  • The Single Entry e-Visa: 25 USD
  • The Multiple-Entry e-Visa: 60 USD

How Do I Pay The Egypt e-Visa Application Fee?

You'll be able to make the e-Visa payment after completing the online application form. After that, you can choose to pay via debit card or credit card. The payment process is relatively straightforward - basically the same as ordering a pizza online.

Payment process for Egypt Visa

I should mention that paying the visa fee does not guarantee a successful application for the visa to Egypt and is also non-refundable. The payment is made for the services provided.

What Is The Processing Time For The Egypt e-Visa?

Once you've completed the online application form and paid the visa fee, the e-Visa processing time is around 7 days. Once your visa has been processed, you'll receive a notification via email. After that, you'll be able to print your Egypt e-Visa.

When Should I Apply For My Egypt e-Visa?

The absolute latest you can apply for an Egypt e-Visa is 7 days before your planned departure date. Now, I recommend applying at least 2 weeks before traveling just in case the processing time is delayed.

How Long Does It Take To Complete The Egypt e-Visa Application?

When I applied for my visa to Egypt, I thought I would be able to complete my application within minutes. However, as I learned, this is not the case. Personally, it took me around 45 min to complete my Egypt e-Visa. This is mainly because I had trouble uploading my passport photo.

Now, you can use Atlys' free passport photo tool. It's as easy as uploading a photo of your face and letting the tool do its job. Once it's completed, you can download your generated passport photo.

What Are The Required Documents For The Egypt e-Visa?

You'll be happy to learn that there aren't many Egypt Visa requirements and documents. When applying for your Egypt e-Visa using the online portal, you're only required to submit a picture of your passport.

Now, before you get too excited. There are a few things you need to know. The picture of your passport:

  • Must be a PNG or JPG file
  • Must not be larger than 500KB
  • Your PNG or JPG file name must not have any spaces or special characters
Uploading document onto visa application platform

I'm pointing this out because I had some trouble uploading the picture of my passport.

First of all, I had to convert my picture into a PNG file (which wasn't that difficult). However, the frustration started when I tried to upload my PNG file.

The file exceeded 500KB, which meant I couldn't upload it.

I had to go on google, find a "compression tool," and compress my PNG file. Unfortunately, even after doing this, the file still exceeded 500KB.

After some thought, I took a screenshot of the PNG file and tried uploading it - thinking this would work. Yet, the file still exceeded 500KB, meaning I couldn't upload my passport.

After a few cuss words and a cup of coffee, I tried again. This time I compressed the screenshot I took. Guess what? It didn't work. In the end, I had to compress a compressed file 3 times. Yes, you read that right. I had to compress a compressed file 3 times. Only after doing this could I upload my passport photo.

Attaching supporting document

For your convenience, I'll add precisely how I did this:

  • Take a screenshot of your PNG (passport image) on your phone or desktop,
  • Head over to google and find an "image compressor tool,"
  • Upload your screenshot and compress it,
  • Download the compressed image, upload it again, and compress it (again).
  • Repeat the above step 3 times,
  • Download your compressed passport image and upload it on the online application form.

Easy peasy, right? This is why I recommend using Atlys to apply for your Egypt e-Visa.

What Are The Required Documents When Entering Egypt?

You're Egypt e-Visa printout is not the only document you require when entering Egypt. Border authorities will ask you to present the following additional documents:

  • Your valid passport (or valid travel document) that is valid for 6 months from your arrival date,
  • Your Egypt e-Visa printout,
  • A travel itinerary to show the places you plan to visit during your stay,
  • A support letter (if applicable). Typically, you'll need one of these when visiting Egypt for business purposes or visiting relatives and friends.
  • Proof of accommodation such as hotel bookings or Airbnb reservations.

How To Apply For The Egypt e-Visa?

As mentioned, how to get a visa for Egypt from the USA is not a complicated task. However, it can be confusing if you don't know where to start or have never applied for an e-Visa before. Therefore, I'll list 6 simple steps you can follow when applying for your Egypt e-Visa.

If you get an Egypt visa through Atlys, all your information will be securely stored on the app. Therefore, you next visa application can be even quicker.

Step 1: Create An Account

Because the Egypt e-Visa is an online visa, the first step is to sign up and create an account. To do this, you need to head over to the official Egypt Electronic Visa Portal and click "Get Your e-Visa Now."

As soon as you click, you'll be redirected to a new page where you're prompted to sign in. If you don't have an account, you'll have the option to create a new account.

Simply follow the steps indicated to create an account. After creating one, you'll receive an email asking you to verify your email address.

The email you enter during the registration process will be used to send relevant notifications about the status of your Egypt e-Visa.

Once your email has been verified, you'll be able to sign in to your account. After signing in, you should see the following:

Creating new egypt visa application

From here, you can select "Create New Application."

Step 2: Complete The Online Application Form

The next step is to complete your online application form.

The form is pretty simple to complete and doesn't feel like an interrogation, unlike other visa applications (cough Russia cough).

The Egypt e-Visa application form has 3 sections:

  • Travel Information (such as visa type, date of arrival, etc.)
  • Applicant Information (basic stuff such as your name, surname, passport details, etc.)
  • Host Information

Before continuing, I briefly want to discuss travel information and host information.

Travel Information:

During the travel information section, you can select the type of visa you want to apply for (single or multiple-entry visa).

Traveling information for egypt visa

Host Information:

Host information for egypt visa

You might think that you need some sort of invitation before traveling to Egypt. However, this is not the case (unless the purpose of your trip is not tourism).

You can use your accommodation (like the hotel where you'll be staying) as a host when filling out this part. When selecting "Host Type," choose other, and simply enter your hotel information within the respective fields.

One neat feature about the Atlys app is that you can scan your passport barcode, which then allows the app to insert all your information in the required fields. This means you are ensured of an error-free visa application form.

Step 3: Upload The Required Documents

After completing your application form, you need to upload your passport photo in a PNG or JPG file format. As I mentioned before, this can be quite frustrating as the file can not exceed 500KB.

To avoid the frustration I went through, I suggest following the steps I outlined above or simply using Atlys to apply

Step 4: Pay The Visa Application Fee

Once you've completed steps 1 - 4, you'll be redirected to the first page you landed on after signing in.

Paying for visa fee

From here, you'll see the application you just completed under "Your Applications." You'll also see a "Pay" button. As you guessed, click on the button to proceed to the payment screen.

Step 5: Wait For Your Visa To Be Processed

After paying the Egypt e-Visa fee, your visa will be processed. The processing time is generally between 7 and 10 business days. Once it's been processed, you'll be notified via email (the one you entered while creating your account).

As soon as you've been notified, you can download your e-Visa and print it out for later use.

Step 6: Collect The Required Documents For Entry

As I briefly mentioned under the required documents. A passport photo is not the only document requirement. You'll need to present a few additional documents to border authorities once you arrive in Egypt.

Travel To Egypt

And there you have it, a complete guide you can follow when applying for your next Egypt e-Visa. At first glance, the application process may look easy. However, you might stumble upon a few frustrating points as you just learned. Luckily, you'll find all the solutions within this post.

The only thing left is to explore the thought-provoking history and civilization of Egypt. Who knows, you might find some hidden treasure. If not, you'll definitely enjoy your trip.
