Have you ever wondered how you would apply for your India Visa from the US? If you have, then this post is perfect for you. Currently, there are about 3 million Indian Immigrants in the US. However, whether you need an Indian Visa depends on several factors.
For that reason, this post will serve as your Indian Visa Guide. I will cover every detail surrounding the India Visa, including the India Visa application process, types of Indian Visas, India Visa fees, and more.
Let's jump right in:
First, I think I must explain the Visa to India from the USA. This section will contain all the information surrounding the India Visa, such as an overview and the fastest way to get Visa for India.
Yes, US citizens must apply for an India Tourist Visa or any other type of India Visa. Although you can apply for it yourself, we suggest you apply through Atlys instead.
However, please note that there are different Indian Visas you can apply for, and each serves its purpose of entry. Don't worry about the different types of Indian Visas; we'll get to it later in this post.
Unfortunately, the Indian Tourist Visa on Arrival (VOA) applies only to citizens from Japan, South Korea, and the UAE. However, please remember that VOA only applies to UAE citizens who obtained an India E-Visa or an Indian Entry Visa.
The Visa for India from the USA is an entry permit that allows US citizens to travel to India for a certain number of days. The validity of your India Visa is determined by the type of entry visa to India you are applying for.
For example, suppose you want to enjoy multiple entries to India. In that case, you can apply for a 6-month, 1-year, 2-year, or 10-year India Visa.
Any citizen around the globe can apply for an India Visa. However, please keep in mind that your citizenship and the purpose of your travel will determine the type of India Visa you can apply for and the required documents you must submit.
We suggest you apply for your India Visa at least 2 weeks before your planned departure date. Although you might receive your India Visa early, you have some extra time if there are complications during your India Visa application.
There are 2 ways to apply for your India Visa, which will affect where you can apply for your India Visa. The easiest way is to apply for your India Visa online. When you apply for your Indian Visa online, you get an E-Tourist Visa for India.
The other option to apply for your Indian Visa is through an Indian Embassy or Consulate. However, this option requires you to submit your documents in hard copy to the Indian Mission.
The India E-Visa is a type of online visa application. There is no need to submit the paper documents to an Indian Mission or attend an in-person interview. Your Indian E-Visa application will then be processed, and once processed, you will receive your India Visa electronically.
However, a normal visa requires you to submit documents at an Indian Mission through a courier service or by hand. Once your documents are submitted, the Indian Mission officials will process your India Visa. Once your Visa is processed, the Indian Mission will contact you to collect your approved India Visa.
For the purpose of this post, we'll be discussing the India E-Visa. This type of Visa is the most issued Visa, and I believe it is the one you will be applying for.
The fastest way to get an India Visa is to apply through Atlys. The India Visa application process through Atlys is as easy as following these easy steps:
Your India Visa application couldn't be easier. Once Atlys has your information, you can rest assured that you will receive your India Visa in no time.
Now that we've covered the most basic questions regarding the India Visa, I think it's time we cover some India Visa application-related information. This section will cover more detailed information about the India e Visa, such as the India Visa requirements, Indian Visa application process, and information regarding the extension of an India Visa.
The information below concerns India E-Visa applications. Please remember that we will cover each India Visa and explain if there are any additional steps and documents.
The first thing we need to discuss regarding the India Visa application is the India Visa requirements for US citizens. For that reason, this section will cover the required documents, passport, and photo requirements for the India Visa application.
The India Entry Visa requires you to submit several documents to ensure a successful India Visa application. For the purpose of the post, I will list the most common required documents when completing an India Visa application. Please remember that the different types of India Visas may require you to submit additional documents concerning the purpose of your trip.
Remember, Atlys helps you by gathering these documents for you. Skip the hassle and download the Atlys app.
Here's a list of the India Visa required documents:
Ensure the information on the online application form corresponds with the documents uploaded during the India Visa application process.
You must ensure to submit your original and valid passport. Please also ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity and has at least 2 blank pages.
As you have seen in the required documents section, you must submit a passport-sized photograph of yourself during the India Visa application. Please keep in mind that the photo must meet the following requirements:
Now we can start with the India Visa from the USA application process. Although I'll discuss the India Visa application process in depth, I must remember you that you can complete your application with Atlys in minutes.
As I mentioned, the India Visa application process is pretty straightforward, but ensure you follow our easy 5 steps India Visa application guide:
The first step for the India Visa application will be determining if you need an Indian Visa. I can already assure you that you must have an India Visa because citizens from the Maldives are the only country that enjoys visa-free travel to India.
The SAARC nations are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Remember that your application for an e-Visa to India will probably be rejected if you've visited Pakistan or are of Pakistani descent. You must submit your application in person at an Indian consulate. It will then probably be subject to further scrutiny and lengthy visa processing procedures.
The next step would be determining what type of India Visa you need. There are several types of India Visas you can apply for. However, there are only 3 online India Visas, namely:
As the names suggest, these above-mentioned India Visas are online Visas. They, therefore, require you to complete an online India Visa application.
The next step is to start your India Visa application officially. Although some of these points may seem self-explanatory, I'll briefly explain each:
You can skip this whole process by just downloading the Atlys app, and completing your visa application in under 10 minutes.
You must go to the official website and fill out an application to obtain an e-Visa for India from the USA. An infographic on a plain page will welcome you. It outlines the procedure for obtaining your new e-Visa.
Create an online account by tapping "Apply Online." When creating the account, you must choose the type of Visa you need.
During this phase of the online India Visa application, you must enter relevant personal details. For example, you must enter personal, passport, family, and occupation details.
US citizens can apply for different Indian Visas types. As I mentioned, these include the India E-Tourist Visa, India E-Business Visa, and India E-Medical Visa. You must choose single entry or multiple entries within each India visa application type.
The last information you must complete is to choose the number of days you want your India Visa to be issued, but we'll cover this later in the post.
This is a person you know both in India and in your nation. Give your hotel or Airbnb information if you don't know anyone in India.
During this step, you must upload the documents I mentioned previously.
Before submitting your India Visa application, I suggest you check the following:
Check your email:
After submission, you receive an email with your Application ID. This is not the same as the temporary application ID email you received when you began the application process. You must have the Application ID to locate and download your Visa.
Ensure your passport details are correct:
After you submit your application, you will see your Application ID - save it. You must also receive an email confirming receipt within 6 hours of submission. This email will display your Application ID, Passport number, and nationality. It will also tell you the estimated processing time for your India Visa.
The India Visa application process's next step is to pay your India Visa fee. Remember that each India Visa has its own Visa cost, so please check the Visa fee for each India Visa type. Paying your India Visa fee is pretty straightforward.
We'll discuss the payment-related information later in this post.
The last step of the India Visa process is to wait for your India Visa to be processed. The processing time for the India Visa is between 3-5 days. However, I suggest you apply for your India Visa at least 2 weeks before departure.
Feel free to check out our post on 7 ways Indians can travel to the US right now
Remember that an India e-Visa cannot be extended and that your passport must still be valid for at least six months. Suppose you want to stay in India for a longer period. In that case, you must leave India and apply for an India Visa again.
You risk facing harsh legal repercussions, a fine, and sometimes a future ban if you overstay your Visa in India.
The initial fine of $30 has been increased to a maximum of $500 depending on how long the infringement continues.
As you may have noticed, I've previously mentioned some of the India Visas in this post. Therefore, this section will explain each type of Indian Visa for US citizens.
An India E Tourist Visa is an electronic travel authorization that enables citizens of qualified nations to visit India.
The Indian Government introduced India's tourist e-Visa program in October 2014 to streamline the visa application procedure and increase the number of foreign visitors.
The Indian Tourist Visa, also known as the e-Tourist Visa, permits the visa and passport holder to travel to India for a short term. Among the justifications for entering India on this kind of Visa are:
Although I previously said, anyone could apply for the India Visa, the same can't be said about the India E-Tourist Visa. This is because only certain countries qualify to apply for the India E Visas. Therefore, before starting with your India E Visa application, I suggest you check out our document on which countries can apply for the India E Visa.
Also, we've compiled a document that lists countries that do not qualify for the India E Visa. Please check if your citizenship requires you to submit an India Tourist Visa application at an Indian Embassy or Consulate. We'll discuss the Indian Embassy and Consulates later in this post.
US citizens can only stay in India for 180 days if they have applied for the 1 year India Visa. Please keep in mind that there are different types of Indian E Visas. US passport holders can choose between single or multiple-entry India Visas, each with its length.
Here's a list of the different Indian E Tourist Visas:
Single Entry Visa:
Multiple Entry Visa:
As I discussed earlier, the required documents for the India E Visas are all the same. However, some Indian E Visas may require you to submit additional documents. Suppose that is the case, head to that specific type of India E Visa.
If you want to revise the India E Visa required documents, be sure to use the link above.
The India E Tourist Visa application can be made through Atlys or online through the Government of India's website. Please take note that all the Indian E Visa applications are the same. Therefore, you can follow the India E Visa application steps explained previously in this post.
The India E Tourist Visa processing time is normally 3 - 5 business days. However, please remember that your India E Visa processing time may take longer if you made any mistakes on your India Visa application or have not submitted all the required documents.
Before we discuss the India E Tourist Visa cost, it is important to mention that the India Visa fees can change without notice. Therefore, I suggest you always check the India Visa fees before applying. Here is our list of updated India E Tourist Visa fees:
Single Entry E-Tourist Visa:
Multiple Entry E-Tourist Visa:
As I mentioned earlier, the India E Visa is an electronic travel document you must show to India Border Officials once arriving in India. Please find below an example of an India E Tourist Visa:
Now that we've discuss the India E-Tourist Visa, let's discuss the India E-Business Visa next:
If you are an India Business Visa holder, you can conduct business in India. The multiple-entry India e-Business visa allows for a combined total stay of 180 days beginning with the date of initial admission into the nation.
E-Visa for India was divided into three categories as of April 1, 2017, with the business visa being one of them. US citizens and travelers globally can apply up to 120 days before their anticipated arrival date in India under the electronic visa system. It is important to note that each application window has been extended from 30 to 120 days.
A business visa for India can be applied online by passport holders from more than 160 nations. Tourists are not required to physically visit an embassy or consulate because the application procedure is purely electronic. As a result, traveling for business has never been easier.
I mentioned earlier that the India E-Business Visa is valid for stays up to 180 days. Please keep in mind that there are different types of India E-Business Visas. Here is everything you need to know about the different India E-Business Visas:
Single Entry Business Visa:
Multiple Entry Business Visa:
The India E-Business Visa required documents are similar to the documents discussed earlier in this post. In addition, however, the India E-Business Visa requires you to submit the following additional documents:
The India E-Business Visa would follow the same steps mentioned previously for US citizens during the India Visa application process. Please note the following; you must select "business" when completing the Business Visa for India online.
Business travelers are urged to apply for their business visa at least 4 days before their trip. Most applications are processed within 4 days, although visa processing occasionally takes a few extra days. Although Atlys can't help with the processing time of your Visa, you are ensure
The India E-Business cost is the same for all types of India Business Visas. Please find below each India E-Business Visa and its fee:

Multiple Entry Business Visa:
"What's the India E-Conference Visa", you ask.
In this section, we'll discuss everything you need to know about the India E-Conference Visa.
Electronic travel authorization for international conventions, seminars, and workshops that will be held in India is known as an Indian E-Conference Visa. A single and multiple-entry pass is available to more than 150 different countries.
Sponsored workshops and seminars have been in demand for years to share new knowledge and opportunities with foreign delegates due to the growth of many sectors in India. One of its prerequisites is an invitation from institutions or organizations that qualify.
Sixty-one countries can apply for the India E-Conference Visa, including Australia, Canada, the USA, and more. So please check if you can apply for the India E-Conference Visa before starting your online application.
You can apply for the India E-Conference Visa if you are traveling to India for the following purposes:
Single Entry E Conference Visa:
Multiple Entry E Conference Visa:
Once again, the India E-Conference Visa requirements are the same as the India Visa required documents for US citizens. In addition, however, you must submit the following additional documents:
The India E-Conference Visa is an online visa application. Therefore, you can follow the same steps as US citizens' India visa application.
The India E-Conference Visa processing time is between 3-5 days. However, we'll discuss the India Visa processing times later in this post.
Multiple Entry E Conference Visa:
Now that we've discussed the most common India Visas, we must discuss the India E-Medical Visa.
Foreign nationals who want to travel to India for medical treatment can do so with the help of an electronic medical visa. The holder of a medical Indian visa is permitted a total of three entries.
A short-term visa for medical treatment is known as an "e-Medical" visa. Only the patient is eligible for this India E-Visa, which means family members are not permitted. However, blood relations may apply for an E- Medical Attendant Visa to travel with the holder of an e-Medical visa.
A total of 41 countries can apply for the India E Medical Visa. These countries include the USA, Australia, Poland, and many more.
The length of your medical treatment can determine the validity of your India E-Medical Visa. Here are the different India E-Medical Visas:
Single Entry Medical E-Visa:
Multiple Entry Medical E-Visa:
Triple Entry Medical E-Visa:
The India E-Medical Visa requirements are the same as the India Visa required documents for US citizens. You must, however, submit the following additional required documents:
You can apply for the India E-Medical Visa online. Be sure to follow the India Visa application steps for US citizens set out previously in this post.
The India E-Medical Visa processing time can take between 3-5 days. Therefore, you may receive your India E-Medical Visa earlier than expected due to fast processing times.
The India E-Medical Visa cost depends on the number of entries you choose. Here is a list of the different India E-Medical Visa costs:
Single Entry Medical E-Visa:
Multiple Entry Medical E-Visa:
Triple Entry Medical E-Visa:
You may have heard of the India Emergency Visa, but what is it exactly?
We'll explain everything you need to know about the India Emergency Visa in this section:
Before I get started, let me first explain the India Emergency Visa. Only US citizens of Indian descent and their family members who need to go to India due to an actual family emergency, such as a serious illness or death in the family, are eligible for the Emergency Visa service. Please be aware that it differs from a typical visa.
Only people of Indian descent are eligible for the emergency visa for India. As a result, it is inapplicable as a medical visa. In light of this, you must present evidence of renunciation before requesting an India Emergency Visa.
As I mentioned, the India Emergency Visa is only available for US passport holders of Indian origin. Therefore, if you must travel to India urgently and you are not of Indian origin, in that case, I suggest you apply for the India E-Tourist Visa instead.
You can stay in India with the India Emergency Visa for 180 days. As I mentioned, you must be a US passport holder of Indian origin.
The India Emergency Visa follows the [same requirements as the India E-Visa for US citizens]. However, if you want to apply for the India Emergency Visa, you must add the following documents:
The India Emergency Visa to India is also an online visa application. Although the basic steps are the same as those for the India Visa application for US citizens, I suggest you follow our India Emergency Visa application guidelines.
When the application is properly completed, the necessary reports are provided, and the full application is finalized, the Emergency Indian e-visa issue takes 1 to 3 working days.
Three different fees determine the India Emergency Visa cost. Here are the 3 different India Emergency Visa fees:
Be sure to check our India Emergency Visa guide for additional information.
Let's first grasp the 10 Year Indian Visa for US Citizens before delving into all you need to know about it.
US passport holders can apply for the India 10-Year Visa. However, let's say you want to travel to India more than once within that time. Then, a visa of this kind could be preferable to an India e-Tourist Visa. A 10-year India visa is more difficult to obtain, but it makes future trip arrangements easier.
Only US citizens can apply for the 10-Year India Visa. Suppose you are not a US citizen and want to apply for Indian Visa. In that case, we suggest you apply for the Indian E-Tourist Visa. Please check out our guide on how to get your India E-Visa in 8 simple steps.
The name suggests that the India 10-Year Visa is valid for 10 years. However, you can only stay for 180 days in India with the India 10-Year Visa.
The 10-Year India Visa required documents are the same as the India E Visa application for US citizens. Please refer to the section required documents for US citizens before starting your 10-Year India Visa application.
The India 10-Year Visa is an online visa application. Therefore, please follow the steps I outlined previously for the India Visa application from the USA
Depending on the Indian consulate you apply to, the processing times for the Indian Tourist Visa for US Citizens may vary. However, you should typically anticipate a processing time of 3 to 5 business days for your visa application.
As you'll see below, the single and multiple-entry 10-Year India Visa costs are the same. Please find the India 10-Year Visa fees below:
Single Entry E-Tourist Visa:
Multiple Entry E-Tourist Visa:
An individual is granted an India Transit visa if they pass through India on their way to another country and can show sufficient evidence of their travel arrangements, such as valid tickets for their next destination (via India).
Single/double entry visas with a maximum 15-day validity are given for those who pass through India. The Visa's validity period begins when it is issued. Therefore if someone cannot enter India within 15 days of receiving the Visa, they must apply for another transit visa. The person in transit may be in transit in India for no more than three days at a time.
A business visa is given to a foreign national who wishes to travel to India to start an industrial or commercial venture, investigate potential sites for such ventures, or buy or sell industrial goods in India.
Everyone must follow a set method to enter the country, even though India has a relatively permissive visa policy for most American and European countries. You must first fulfill the requirements for eligibility for the first.
As long as you have a real health issue that needs to be taken care of, any foreign national can obtain a Medical Visa for India. Therefore, if you want to receive treatment in one of the thousands of high-specialty hospitals spread around the nation, you must apply for the India Medical Visa.
A person who is hired or appointed by a company, organization, or economic venture to work as a technician, technical expert, senior executive, etc., will be granted an employment visa.
Suppose you meet the requirements for the issuance of such a visa. In that case, foreign citizens working in the power and steel industries assigned to a project in India may enter the country using a special visa known as the India Project Visa.
For the start-up, training, execution, or culmination of a sanctioned project, skilled and highly trained foreign national personnel employed in the power and steel sector are granted an Indian Project Visa. The duration of this multiple-entry Visa depends on the project in question.
Family members of patients must also apply for visas; the Medical Visa is only applicable to patients. The medical attendant visa is required for the patient's nearest blood relatives. But this Visa's drawback is that it only allows two persons to enter the nation simultaneously. The MX visa is known as such, and those who possess it must register within 14 days of their entry into the nation.
In these trying circumstances, Afghan citizens can obtain an emergency visa called the e-Emergency X-Misc Visa.
With the E-Emergency X-Misc Visa, which has a six-month validity period, you can go to India. However, you cannot use this Visa to work in India. The good news is that everything is made simpler because the process is entirely online.
As you might have guessed, you must pay an India Visa fee. We know the India Visa application process may seem intimidating. That's why we'll discuss everything regarding the India Visa cost and payment.
SBIePay is the State Bank of India's payment aggregator service. The largest bank in India and one of the top 50 banks worldwide offers various payment methods to its customers on one website for their convenience.
On the e-Visa platform, SBIePay has made the following channels possible:
As I mentioned, you can pay your India Visa fee with your credit or debit MasterCard. However, you also have the option to pay via PayPal.
US citizens can apply for the 10-Year India Tourist Visa, which will cost you 163 USD. Please remember that the India E Visa cost can vary depending on the type of India E Visa you apply for.
We know that you may encounter some problems during your India Visa application. The main problem we find travelers are having India Visa payment issues. Don't worry; we're here to help.
The first thing I suggest you do is rather use Atlys. We have already figured out the India Visa payment issues, so why try calling banks and finding answers when Atlys has got you covered? With Atlys, it's as easy as downloading the app and providing information.
If you want to apply for your India Visa the hard way, I suggest you keep reading to find out how to fix your payment issues.
Before you start worrying that your bank account is at fault, I suggest you try our list of possible common payment solutions:
We understand that these payment solutions can seem tedious and require a lot of effort. That's why our easiest solution is Altys.
Yes, both 3D Secure authentication and non-3D Secure foreign cards from MasterCard and VISA are supported via SBIePay.
Suppose you are unknown about your transaction status. In that case, we advise you not to attempt another transaction immediately. Rather, provide your Order no. on the e-Visa site after 30 minutes to check the transaction's status. If the transaction status shows "failed," you may attempt another transaction. Also, they'll refund the debited amount to your bank account after the reconciliation process within seven (7) days of the transaction.
Before you start with your India E-Visa application, you must ensure the following:
The State Bank of India is committed to providing the best customer service. Please find below contact details if you encounter any problems when paying your India E-Visa fee:

India Visas for US citizens is an online E-Visa application. However, your India Visa application must still be processed before traveling to India. In this section, I'll explain the India Visa processing time and also discuss why your India Visa processing time is delayed.
As I mentioned earlier, there are about 4 different India E-Visas. Here is a list of each India E-Visa and their processing times:
We know the processing times are the same because each of these India Visas is an online Visa, normally taking between 3-5 days.
Following the COVID-19 incident, numerous Indian embassies temporarily shut down their visa processing facilities, and staff members went home. However, following the reopening of these offices, embassies are having trouble rehiring former employees.
Another delay in your India Visa processing time could be incorrect information on your documents. Please remember that mistakes you make when completing your application form can negatively influence your India Visa processing time.
The most significant benefit of the India E-Visa is that it is an online visa application. Therefore, there are easy ways to check your India Visa status. This section will cover everything surrounding the India Visa status.
Yes, you can check the status of your India Visa applications online. However, if you apply through Atlys, you'll receive push notifications about your visa status.
If you apply through the Government portal, you can check the status of your application for an Indian visa by providing certain details. For example, you must select the Indian mission's name, file number or web file number, passport number, and date of birth to check your India Visa application status online.
You can check your India Visa status online through the Indian Government website. Ensure that you save your India Visa Application ID, as you need it to check your India Visa status online.
Although we've covered almost everything about the India Visa from the US, you probably have some questions about what happens when you arrive in India from the US. Don't worry; we'll answer all your question in this section.
You can enter India through any of the following airports or seaports with your India Visa:
India seaports:
Chennai, Chochin, Mormugao, Mumbai. Please remember that travelers can exit from any one of India's Authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICP).
India airports:
Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kannur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Varanasi, and Visakhapatnam.
The first thing you must do when your e-Visa for India from the USA has been approved is to make sure you download a copy of it. Remember that border officials won't let you enter India without an electronic visa.
Once in India, you must adhere to the standard entry procedures. Typically, the airport has a lane designated for "international arrivals." You will approach border officials at this point, who will request that you show them both your current passport and your e-Visa for India. Then, border Officials will stamp your passport, and you'll be permitted to enter the country.
Just letting you know. The right to request more documentation is reserved for border officials. However, they typically ask for paperwork demonstrating your trip's purpose and financial capacity to support yourself. As a result, I advise that you arrive with the following papers in your possession (in addition to your e-visa for India):
Refusing your access to a certain nation by rejecting your visa application is referred to as visa rejection. For example, suppose you cannot demonstrate that you are entitled to travel to a specific nation. In that case, your visa application may be rejected.
Most of the time, it happens because the applicants omit crucial information or occasionally because a specific document is missing. Some frequent grounds for denial of a visa application include missing or incomplete documentation and omitted crucial information.
Now that we've discussed the Indian ports of entry, I think it is time we discuss the Indian Embassies and Consulates in the US.
There are 5 Indian Embassies/Consulate in the US. During this post section, we'll discuss how to contact the Indian Embassy closest to you and other India Embassy-related questions.
Yes, you can apply for your Indian Visa through the Indian Embassy closest to you. The India Regular Visa is a paper visa applied through an Indian Embassy or Consulate. Please ensure you print out the [required documents], complete the application form, and contact the Indian Embassy to schedule an India Visa appointment.
Suppose you perhaps decided rather make your India Visa application at an India Consulate. In that case, you can contact any of the following Indian Consulates or Embassy closest to you:

The country's ambassador is the one who manages the mission's daily operations. The Indian Embassy's job is to act as a conduit for important developments that improve the nation's economic standing between India and the rest of the globe.
The ambassador's and his Embassy's responsibility is to protect the rights and interests of the sending and receiving countries' citizens. The Indian Embassy should conduct legal consultations with the sending and receiving States to ensure this is done under international law. The ambassador must do his duties honestly and uphold all national laws and legal requirements.
Although I have already discussed the Indian Consulates and Embassy earlier, please find a list with each Consulate and Embassy address. Feel free to click on the address which will take you to the Google Maps directions:
Now that we've discussed the Indian Consulates and Embassy, let's discuss how Indian Citizens can travel to India from the US.
If you are an Indian National by birth, you can apply for an Indian Visa. However, please remember this is only applicable if you have a permanent US Residency. You must renunciate your Indian passport (citizenship) to gain US Permanent Residency and therefore need an OCI Card.
Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) who emigrated from India and later acquired citizenship in another country were given an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) Smart Card.
A travel document known as the OCI card permits its owner to travel to and from India without a visa. There are no limitations on how frequently the OCI cardholders enter or leave India because the card is valid for life. The holder of an OCI card is also entitled to all the benefits and rights accorded to normal Indian citizens, including the freedom to live and work in India.
You may be wondering, what are the advantages of going through this arduous OCI Card application process? Here is a rundown of the benefits of the OCI Card:
You must fulfill the conditions before applying for the OCI Card. Please be aware that you are not eligible to register as an Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder if you, your parents, grandparents, or great grandparents are or were nationals of Pakistan or Bangladesh. The prerequisites that foreign nationals must fulfill before requesting an OCI Card are listed below:
Unfortunately, you can only apply for your OCI Card through VFS Services. The reason for saying this, unfortunately, is that VFS has a long processing time and can cause delays to your travel plans. We'll discuss how you can apply for the OCI Card later in this post.
No, OCI Card Holder does not need an India Entry Visa. OCI Card Holders can travel to India without prior approval.
As I mentioned, the OCI Card requires you to submit an application with the required documents. In this section, I'll discuss the required documents for an OCI Card.
Here's the list of required documents for USA nationals by birth:
A US National by birth is someone whose parents may be from India but were born in the USA.
If you are not a US National by birth, you are considered a US National by Naturalization. Here is a list of documents you require for an OCI Card if you are a US National by Naturalization:
