Before you decide to move on to the next post, hear me out (think of the next few sentences as an elevator pitch).
If you want to apply for a visa to Jordan from the US, you're in luck because that's all this post is about!
If you read this post, you'll find the two types of visas you can apply for, their costs, processing times, validity, the application process, and loads of other useful information.
So, now that I have your attention. Let's get started.
Do US Citizens Need A Visa For Jordan?
Yes, they do. Most foreign nationals wishing to enter Jordan must obtain a visa that aligns with their purposes in the country, such as a tourist visa, business visa, spousal visa, or study visa.
There are a few countries surrounding Jordan that do not require a visa. However, US citizens must apply for a valid Jordan tourist visa either at the Jordanian embassy before arriving or at the port of entry upon arriving in Jordan.
Everything You Need To Know Abou The Jordan Visa For Us Citizens
What Is A Jordan Tourist Visa?
A Jordan tourist visa is an official document that will allow you to travel to Jordan for tourism, travel, or recreational purpose. And there are two ways of getting a Jordan tourist visa for US nationals which I will discuss in this blog.
US passport holders can apply for a tourist visa, that is, a single-entry visa, double-entry visa, or multiple-entry visa. However, you can only obtain a dual entry and multiple entry visa from Jordanian Embassy. US citizens can also apply for a visa on arrival or VOA.
If you wish to get a single entry visa and visit all the major tourist sites in Jordan, you can apply for a Jordan Pass. The Jordan pass also expedites your visa process and exempts you from single-entry visa fees.
What Is The Validity Of A Jordan Tourist Visa?
The validity of the Jordan visa for US citizens depends on the types of visas obtained and approved by the consular officials.
Usually, the single-entry tourist visa is valid for two months and allows you to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days. Similarly, a dual-entry visa lets you stay in the country for 30 days and is valid for 3 months.
What Is The Validity Of The Jordan Visa On Arrival?
The validity of the Visa On Arrival is usually one month for a single entry. However, you can also get a multiple-entry five-year visa upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport.
What Is The Jordan Visa Cost?
The cost of the visa depends on which visa you apply for and where you apply for your visa. For example, if you apply for a Jordan Tourist Visa at an Embassy, the visa cost will look something like this:
A dual-entry visa with three months validity costs 60 JOD (approximately 85 USD)
A multi-entry visa with 60 months validity costs 120 JOD (approximately 170 USD).
If you apply for a Jordan Visa On Arrival, the costs will be:
40 JD (USD 56.50) for a single entry Visa On Arrival.
120 JD (USD 170.00) for a multiple entry Visa On Arrival.
How Long Does It Take To Process A Jordan Visa?
The processing time for a Jordan visa for US citizens at an Embassy Visa is between 3-5 business days. This does not include public holidays or weekends. You should also know that certain things can extend the processing time, like if you applied during peak season, over holidays, or when the Embassy receives many applications.
The processing time for the Visa On Arrival may vary depending on the passenger traffic and the operating speed of the officer at the booth. However, apart from waiting in the queue, obtaining a visa within 10 minutes is possible.
Can I Extend A Jordan Visa?
Yes, you can. You can extend your Jordan Tourist Visa and Visa On Arrival. If you want to stay longer than your visa's validity in Jordan, you must register at a Jordanian police station before the visa expires. If you have a Visa on Arrival, you will likely receive a 60-day extension.

How Can I Apply For A Jordan Visa For US CItizens?
So as I've mentioned at the beginning of this post, US citizens can apply for a Jordan Visa On Arrival or a Tourist Visa at an Embassy. So this means that there are two ways you can get a visa and two ways to apply for that visa.
You can:
Apply Through The Embassy
Apply For A Visa On Arrival
Apply Through The Embassy
Suppose your stay in Jordan is longer than the Visa On Arrival permits. Well, then you need to apply for a Tourist Visa at an Embassy. The application process looks something like this:
Step 1: Gather all the required documents
The first thing you need to do is make sure that you have all the required documents and that you complete the visa application form.
Step 2: Schedule your visa appointment
In order to submit your application, you must schedule an appointment at your nearest Embassy. You can find their contact information on their website. This is also a good time to ask some questions, like what visa services they have or if you need to pay the visa fee with cash or a card.
Step 3: Attend your visa appointment
On the day of your visa appointment, get to the Embassy at least half an hour early. During this appointment, you might be interviewed. Don't worry, though. Officials will only ask you questions about your travels. You can also use your supporting documents to answer the questions.
Once the interview is done, you can submit your application and pay the visa fee.
Step 4: Wait for your visa
The last thing you must do is wait for the Embassy to process your visa. Once your visa is processed, they'll let you know through an email or any other contact information you provided. Next, you must pick up your passport with your visa affixed at the Embassy.
There you go! Now you have your Jordan Tourist Visa!
Apply For A Visa On Arrival
The application process is fairly straightforward:
In Jordan, you will have to queue at the visa on arrival or immigration desk.
At the immigration desk, the officer will ask you for your documents.
The immigration officer will check all the documents and verify them.
The officer might ask you questions about your stay and purpose in Jordan, and you must answer them truthfully.
If satisfied with the answers, the immigration officer will stamp your Jordan visa on your passport.
Lastly, you must pay the relevant visa fees in cash.
That's it! You can now enjoy your stay in Jordan.

What Is A Jordan Pass?
The Jordan Pass is a single-fee package introduced by the Jordan Tourism Board, allowing the buyer to visit all the major tourist sites without paying entrance fees.
It offers discounted prices in the package instead of paying individual entrance fees. In addition, the package includes the cost of 40 tourist destinations in Jordan, such as Petra, Jerash, Wadi Rum, and much more.
With the Jordan Pass, US citizens do not have to pay the single-entry tourist visa fees if they stay in the country for a minimum of three nights or four days.
You can apply for a single-entry tourist visa at the Jordanian Embassy or international port of entry in Jordan using the Jordan Pass. However, purchasing a travel pass is not mandatory, and you can only use it once to waive your entry fees and visit the tourist sites.
You can only use the Jordan pass to get a single entry visa fee exempted. If you wish to enter the country multiple times, you must pay the necessary visa fees. We have a blog on the Jordan Pass, and you can read more about it here.
