What Is The Turkey Transit Visa?
The Turkey Transit Visa is an entry permit that allows travelers to transit through Turkey to another country.
It's very important to understand that you only need a Transit Visa if you want to pass Turkish Immigration.
Luckily the Transit Visa is now an online Visa application. So you do not have to go to the Turkish Embassy or Consular to apply for a "Sticker Visa" (also known as the paper Visa).
Let me explain by using an example:
I visited India for some time off during my summer vacation a few years ago. Unfortunately, my flight got diverted to Istanbul Airport on my way back to the US.
Although I'm a US citizen, I require a Visa to enter Turkey and, therefore, couldn't pass through Immigration. Luckily you don't need a Transit Visa if you stay in the transit area during your layover.
So I just waited for my connecting flight in the transit area. I advise buying earphones because long layovers can be frustrating if you're bored.
Please note that the Turkey Transit, Tourist Visa, and E Visa (electronic Visa) are the same. Therefore, you'll apply for a Turkish E Visa. For this post, I'll refer to it as the Turkey Transit Visa.
Who Needs A Turkey Transit Visa?
As I mentioned earlier, you only need a Transit Visa if you want to enter Turkey and require a Visa.

How To Apply For The Turkey Transit Visa?
It's time to explain how you can get a Turkey Transit Visa. Remember, you can apply hassle-free through Atlys.
However, here's how you can do it on your own:
Step 1: Go To The Turkey Government Online Visa Portal
First, you must head to the Turkish Government portal to start your Transit Visa application.
Step 2: Complete The Turkey E Visa Application Form Online
The next step is to complete the Visa application form. Again, please remember that it is important to ensure you enter the correct information.
A mistake on your Visa application form, such as your passport number, can cause your application to be rejected.
For example, suppose your Visa is approved with incorrect information, and you arrive at the gate. Turkish Immigration can reject you to enter if your passport information doesn't match your Visa.
Remember that the Turkey Transit Visa application is the same as the Turkey E Visa. Therefore, check out our Turkey Visa Guide for a detailed step-by-step guide on completing the Turkey E Visa application.
Remember that you can apply for additional transit passengers if you are traveling with a group.
Step 3: Pay The Turkey Transit Visa Fee
We're almost done. All you must do is pay your Transit Visa fee, and the hard part is over.
As I mentioned, the Transit Visa costs 50 USD for US citizens, and you can pay with your credit or debit card.
Remember to check your emails for a link to pay the Visa fee.
