Updates On Vietnam Borders Reopening
It is no longer breaking news that Vietnam has opened its borders to international tourism. The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism approved the full reopening of the borders and has been relaxing the covid-19 restrictions since they reopened their borders in March 2022.
The tourism industry everywhere has suffered immensely, and now more than ever, countries need foreign visitors to help boost the tourism sector. Hence, Vietnam has resumed international travel and is now welcoming international tourists with certain travel restrictions.
Major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have also eased many covid-related restrictions. They have allowed the reopening of all the bars, restaurants, and cafes and eased social distancing. You can now visit all the exciting such as Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Nha Trang, and enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches.
To help tourism flourish in the country once again, Vietnam has approved the resumption of international flights between countries like the U.S., Singapore, Thailand, the U.K., Australia, and many others.
There are constantly newer updates and changes to the rules and regulations. Check out our page on Vietnam to stay up to date.
Covid19 Related Updates And Requirements In Vietnam
The Vietnamese Health Authorities have constantly been easing the covid-19 restrictions and, therefore, changing the requirements for international visitors. For example, recently, it was announced that self-isolation or quarantine is no longer a requirement for international travelers.
Previously it was required to present a completed health declaration form that has been changed, and you are no longer needed to fill in a health declaration form. This change has been made to ease the congestion at the airports created by this requirement.
Another measurement implemented due to the Omicron Variant, such as the quick test requirement for international arrivals, is now ditched and no longer required. However, there are Covid-19 screenings and other requirements such as face masks, sanitizing, and social distancing in place at the airports.
Currently, the Ministry of Health has implemented the following requirements in Vietnam for foreign tourists:
Present a negative covid-19 test result using the RT-PCR test method done within 72 hours of departure or a rapid antigen test done within 24 hours of departure to Vietnam.
Children under 2 years old are exempted from the test requirements and proof of vaccination requirement
Travel insurance that covers covid-19 treatment with a minimum liability of USD 10,000
Download the PC-Covid health management app from google play store or apple app store on your phone.
NOTE: The Ministry of Health has not begun accepting the covid-19 vaccine passport or certificate, and health declaration forms are no longer required.
Vietnam Electronic Visa or Evisa For US Citizens
All foreign visitors wanting to visit the beaches and bustling cities of Vietnam require an entry visa. Vietnam offers different types of visas for various purposes; however, the majority of visas are issued for tourism. You can obtain these tourism-related visas in three ways:
At Vietnam Embassy or Consulate
Electronic Visa or Evisa
Visa on arrival
Luckily for American citizens, they can apply for a Vietnam Electronic Visa or Evisa, probably the quickest and easiest way to get your visa (of course, not as quick and easy as using ATYLS!).
A Vietnamese evisa is an online visa that allows travelers to enter the country for tourism purposes. You can stay and travel across the country on this visa. This visa allows you a single entry, and you can stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 30 days. Unfortunately, you cannot apply for a multiple entry visa online and will have to apply for a new visa granting multiple entries at the Vietnam Embassy.
NOTE: You can read a more detailed blog focusing on the Vietnam Tourist Visa here on Atlys.
Documents Required For Vietnam EVisa In The US
For this Vietnam visa application, U.S. passport holders can apply directly from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, the list of required documents/information is short. This means you do not have to spend days gathering documents.
Below are the visa requirements for the Vietnam Evisa Application:
A scanned picture of your passport’s personal information and picture page
The passport must be valid for at least another six months
A 4 cm x 6 cm size passport photo of yourself looking straight with a white background and without wearing any glasses. You can keep on your headgear for religious purposes or a wig. However, you must wear it when you enter Vietnam
You will need to provide personal information, contact details, passport details, and details regarding your travel and stay in Vietnam.
A debit card or a credit card to pay the visa fees.
How To Apply For Vietnam EVisa In The US
Soon as you are ready with all the information, you can apply for your Vietnam Evisa. There are 3 steps to this visa application process; fill out the online application form, pay for your evisa online, and receive your evisa on the web portal. First, however, I will break down the whole process for you.
To apply for a Vietnam Evisa, you have to fill out an online application form which you will find on the National Web Portal On Immgration website. Here, I will instruct you on the visa application steps and the requirements. It looks something like this:

You must click on the confirmation box in the bottom left-hand corner and go to the next page.
The next page will be your online visa application form. Again, you must read and carefully answer because you cannot edit any details once the form is submitted. If you get any details wrong, you will have to submit a new form and pay for a new visa.
On the visa application form, you will upload your passport page, passport photo, and travel details, such as your arrival date or the intended visit date. I have attached the pictures of the application form below for you.

Remember to check all the details and make sure that you fill out the form correctly. You cannot change the details after you have paid and submitted the form.
Once you have completed the form, click on the review application. This will give you a message on the screen with your Registration Code and some other details such as:

IMPORTANT You must save this reference number to check your application status and to download your Vietnam evisa.
Click “OK” on the message, and it will take you to the next page to pay for your evisa application. After paying the visa fees, you have finished your visa application process.
