The federal government issues the Brazilian passport through the Federal Police. As of 2025, it ranks 17th in the world in terms of travel freedom, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 169 destinations. Between 2021 and 2023, Brazil maintained a consistent position at 20th place among the world’s most powerful passports. However, beginning in 2024, Brazil achieved a notable improvement, climbing to 17th place, a position it has retained through 2025.
This upward movement highlights Brazil's growing diplomatic relations, economic stability, and international cooperation, allowing its citizens visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a greater number of countries.

Passport Validity
Adults (18 years and above)
Brazilian passports for adults are typically valid for 10 years.
This long validity period is ideal for frequent travellers who require a durable and internationally accepted document over the long term.
Children (under 18 years)
Passports issued to minors are valid for 5 years.
The shorter validity period accounts for changes in a child's physical appearance, ensuring that photographs and biometric information remain up to date for security and identification purposes.
Please note: In cases where a passport is lost, stolen, or damaged, any replacement issued may have a reduced validity period.
